Marinier Manuscript
Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks No. 33 (The Alchemical Manuscript of the Seven Keys of Honoratus Marinier)
This late 18th-century work, preserved in two manuscripts, is almost completely unknown. It comprises a series of seven 'keys' that present the alchemical process through a sequence of twenty-two emblematic figures. These figures are accompanied by explanatory texts that provide practical interpretations of the allegorical imagery. The images depict an alchemical drama featuring characters such as Vulcan, Apollo, Diana, Mercury, Saturn, and the alchemical adept. The work follows the traditional alchemical sequence of colour changes—black, white, and red—and incorporates the concepts of the hermaphrodite and bird symbols. This work could very well be the last alchemical emblematic sequence ever created.
