Scala Philosphorum
Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks No. 42. Scala Philosophorum
Readers of many alchemical texts from the late 16th and 17th centuries will often find references to the work known as the Scala Philosophorum as a source of ideas. This work, believed to have been written in the early 15th century by Guido de Montanor, greatly influenced later authors. It was one of the earliest works to present a systematic order for alchemical processes, such as Calcination, Dissolution, and Separation. George Ripley's Twelve Gates were modelled on its structure. In his Ladder of the Wise, Guido de Montanor articulated a sequence of alchemical processes to be followed in order to attain the goals of alchemy, which became the accepted canon for several hundred years.
