Speculative Philosophy
Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks No.34
Gerhard Dorn (1530-1584) was a pivotal figure in spreading Paracelsian ideas in the latter half of the 16th century. He was a Paracelsian physician, prolific writer, and translator who focused on the preparation of medicines rather than metallic transmutation. Dorn's work, "Speculativa Philosophia," gained attention from Carl Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz, who saw parallels between Dorn's ideas and their own psychological theories. However, their selective quotations left much of Dorn's work unexplored. After years of searching for a translator, Paul Ferguson successfully translated Dorn's work into English, allowing modern readers to access Dorn's thoughts and contributions directly.
