Virga Aurea
Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks No. 52
In 1620, the Scottish Catholic scholar of languages, James Bonaventure Hepburn (1573-1621), created a large engraving that was published in Rome. This engraving was an ambitious attempt to document the alphabets of all the known languages at the time. Hepburn included many familiar languages but also referenced some magical and invented ones, such as Hieroglyphic, Apollonian, Mystical, Seraphic, Supercelestial, Celestial, Angelic, Enochian, and Arcanum. Ingrid Walton has translated the Latin text on the engraving and provided insightful notes on the work.
